Android Apps for our new one-to-one tablets
Pre-K through first grade:

Kids ABC Phonics This app is great for young children who are learning the alphabet and the sounds that each letter makes. There is a free trial, but to access the whole site it costs $3.99.
Kids Numbers and Math This is a fun site for young children to learn basic math skills through games. There are both free and paid versions available.

Upper-elementary:
United States History This app provides endless amounts of historical information that would be useful for all ages. It is free, but if you purchase the paid version for $0.99, all proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Program.
Evernote This app allows the user to take notes and bookmark websites. It will even create a study guide out of your notes.

All ages:
Follett Shelf This app gives access to all of the ebooks in your library.
Google Drive With access to this app, students will be able to organize all of their work.
QR Code Reader - QR code readers are great to use in the library for book reviews, author studies, etc.
Math Workshop This app offers a great brain workout for people of any age. The free version has ads, but Workshop Pro only costs $1.99.

Teachers:
TED This app is an excellent site for teachers interested in seeing talks by interesting people on a wide variety of subjects. This would be good professional development for schools.
Common Core This is a go-to app for all teachers when planning lessons.

These apps are recommended by my cohorts - I wish I would have mentioned them!

Michele A. - Scoop.it

  • Scoop.it is a curation tool that allows users to "scoop" articles and create magazines on specific topics. This app would be a great way for students to collect resources when completing a research project.

Kelli H. - StoryKit (free)

  • Students in K-12 can create their very own storybook complete with text and images! Enhance learning and understanding and promote creativity while pairing this with any subject matter.
Teresa P. - Jing-
  • Screen cast presentation tool for teachers and students.
